Poe Walnuts
$14.00
Owing to the “quality of the kernel”, Felix Gillet wrote in 1888 that “no variety recommends itself better for the family garden than the Proeparturiens”. Confirmed over generations in Lake County as an unreliable producer from year to year, it is nevertheless regarded universally as the best tasting of all the walnuts.
With a spherical, dense shell and a small, circular shaped half-kernel, they crack out in my shelling equipment with a low percentage of complete halves, perhaps 10 – 20%. But the buttery flavored nut has a perceptible sweetness and a near complete lack of astringency or bitterness that make it a hands-down favorite. Try them, you'll see.
